L’Équipe report tonight that Montpellier defender Arnaud Souquet is set to be released by the club ahead of a move across the pond to sign for MLS side Chicago Fire.

The former French youth international, who was in the squad to face Lorient this afternoon, will leave the club after three and a half years, having joined from Gent after previously turning out for Dijon and Nice. His contract with the Hérault club was expiring at the end of the season.

Souquet will sign a three-year deal with the Illinois franchise, where another former Ligue 1 player in Xherdan Shaqiri plays, having joined from Lyon last year. The 30-year-old had made ten appearances for Montpellier this season, but competition in the full-back position with both Falaye Sacko and Enzo Tchato have barred him from a consistent spot in the starting eleven. The right-back will have made just over a century of appearances for the club in total.
