In the Pilibhit district of UP, a man “uprooted” an unfinished road with his bare hands to reveal departmental corruption, and it crumbled on video.
The estimated cost of the road’s construction was Rs 3.8 crore. A man is seen in the video scraping the road away from the earth, revealing the sloppiness with which the road was built.

The 7-kilometre-long stretch of road, built under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), is said to connect Puranpur with Bhagwantapur village of the district.

A now-viral video from the incident shows a Bhagwantapur local ripping up a flimsy layer of bitumen using his hands. In the clip, the man can also be heard calling on authorities to take action against the contractor awarded the tender to build the road for Rs 3 crore 80 lakh of public money.
Newly-built road damaged
Shailendra Choudhary, an assistant engineer at the Rural Engineering Department, said the matter was brought to the attention of administrative officials’ attention, who subsequently visited the site and had the poor-quality road repaired.
The newly-constructed road was damaged last week after a vehicle applied brakes, Aaj Tak reported.
The agency in charge of construction has now been given instructions for laying road after their apparent negligence was laid bare by the locals, who are now planning to protest the use of substandard materials involved.
Not the first time
Earlier in June, a portion of a road caved in just a day after it was reconstructed in Bengaluru.
The Jnana Bharthi main road in southern Bengaluru was asphalted at a cost of Rs 6 crore. The municipal body covered around 3.6-km stretch in the area that falls under the Bengaluru university campus.

The road was a part of Rs 23-crore road works by BBMP for PM Narendra Modi’s visit on June 20-21. Modi used the road to travel to the Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University during the trip.
