The latest on Rey Mysterio is that he’s expected back in the ring very soon, and is looking to be cleared by “early July”. The lucha libre legend was injured during a match against Samoa Joe at Money in the Bank, separating his shoulder, but fortunately the damage done wasn’t severe.

It’s not immediately clear how WWE plans on using Mysterio when he’s ready to return. If he’s cleared within the first two weeks of July as he is targeting, they could put him on the card for Extreme Rules. Currently there’s no sign of a program being established in that direction, but it’s not like they didn’t throw together the entire Stomping Grounds card in two weeks.

On the night he was injured, Mysterio won the U.S. Championship from Samoa Joe, and was forced to surrender the belt back to him on Raw instead of vacating it completely. The two were obviously set to have a lengthy program involving Rey’s son Dominic, likely leading to a finale at SummerSlam, but Joe has been moved into the WWE Championship picture opposite Kofi Kingston.

Joe also dropped the U.S. Championship to Ricochet in a tremendous match at Stomping Grounds this past weekend, so WWE may have just scraped the program altogether.

Mysterio could be inserted into a program with Ricochet over the U.S. title given that he technically never lost the belt. The two worked together a few years ago in Lucha Underground, and Mysterio has praised him as being one of the best high-flyers in the world, while Ricochet has cited the lucha star as one of his lifelong heroes. That being said, he was also just pinned by AJ Styles on Raw this week.
