Replacing him is former corporation counsel and new Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone, appointed by the Southington Town Council in May and now at the helm.
As for Sciota, Wednesday’s event was one last chance to honor the former manager, with Wednesday, July 17, officially being classified as “Mark Sciota Day.”
Chamber leaders pointed out Sciota’s relationship with the Southington Chamber of Commerce over the years.
“He served the Board of Directors for multiple terms over the years since 1998 and was instrumental in helping the Chamber forge strong partnerships to assure the stability and growth of our businesses and the vibrancy of our community all around,” wrote the Chamber Thursday.
Wednesday’s tribute came after an emotional Southington Town Council meeting June 24, Sciota’s last as town manager.
There, council members paid tribute to Sciota, commending him on his time serving and the job he did.
“You know It’s been a great journey to work with you Mark,” Southington Town Council Chairman Paul Chaplinsky Jr. said on June 24. “Personally, I’ve seen a lot of the great stuff you’ve done.”

Said Sciota before leaving his post to the council: “I appreciate working with every council person the last 30 years. Every council person I’ve worked with is unique and I appreciate working with every one of you. We tend to remember the troubles, but I think as you get to my point in my career, I remember all the good times.”
