PLAINFIELD, IL — A semi-tractor trailer hauling water caught fire early Tuesday morning on Route 59, according to Plainfield Fire Chief Vito Bonomo.
Crews were dispatched at about 12:31 a.m. and by the time they arrived in downtown Plainfield, the fire had consumed the entire tractor but did not extend into the trailer, Bonomo told Patch. He said crews believe the fire started in the engine compartment.

Some nearby residents reported hearing an explosion, which Bonomo said was likely the sound of tires bursting in the blaze.
