PLAINFIELD, IL — A semi carrying scrap metal overturned Thursday morning at the intersection of 143rd Street and Route 30, prompting road closures, police said.

The hauler turned left onto eastbound 143rd Street from Route 30 and overturned, Administrative Sgt. Luke Ostreko told Patch. No other vehicles were involved. Police received a call about the incident at 9:39 a.m.

The driver did not report any injuries at the scene but was transported by a Plainfield Fire Protection District ambulance to a hospital as a precaution, Ostreko said.

Officers have been on the scene since the incident began, according to the sergeant.

143rd Street was completely closed at first, but westbound lanes reopened once the semi was turned upright. Eastbound lanes remain closed while cleanup continues, the sergeant said.
