CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA— The city of Martinez was dealing with a power outage that affected at least 2,700 PG&E customers Wednesday afternoon as Walnut Creek also dealt with an outage impacting nearly 2,500 customers.
The Martinez outage impacted areas north of Highway 4 and into downtown, the city said in an alert at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
In the event signal lights were not working, drivers were told to treat impacted intersections as a stop sign in all directions.

The power outage was also impacting water service in some areas, the city of Martinez said.
PG&E Spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian told Patch the Martinez outage started at 1:46 p.m. and affected 2,767 customers in the Martinez area.

“By 2:10 p.m., the majority of the customers had been restored,” Sarkissian said. “All customers were restored by 2:44 p.m. The cause of the outage was a branch that made contact with electrical equipment.”
The Walnut Creek outage started at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday and affected 2,473 customers in the Walnut Creek area. By 2:11 p.m., all but 10 customers were restored.
“The 10 remaining customers are expected to be restored later tonight, safely and as quickly as possible,” Sarkissian told Patch.”The cause of the outage was a branch that made contact with electrical equipment.”
