BABYLON, NY — “Hunky” Handsome is a resident of the Babylon Animal Shelter and is the Pet of the Week.
“He’s four years young and the sweetest boy. I just adore him and would be thrilled to find him a family,” shelter staff member Lyndsey Grosjean told Patch.
Handsome is also house-trained, said long-time shelter volunteer Christine Franke.

When he’s out of his kennel—which isn’t often since the shelter’s at full capacity—he “just loves to be close to you,” Franke said.
He’s also snack-motivated, well-behaved and “smart as a whip,” Franke added.

“Handsome loves to give bear hugs, cuddle and anyone that invests any time with him. He is my number number one when I volunteer,” said volunteer Tara Simone.
When it comes to a potential forever family, the team at Babylon Animal Shelter says Handsome could be protective of his home and food and would do good as the only pet of a savvy family.
“Please come and meet Handsome or any of our pets up for adoption,” Frank said. “They really need you more than ever.”
Although potential matches can visit Handsome at the shelter, it’s partnering with Babylon boutique wine shop, Village Vines for Pups & Pour, an adoption event on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the shop.
The puppy part aims to help adoptable dogs find their forever families, like a speed dating event for pups and potential owners highlighted with wine and other goodies.
“Our shelter is full and we are in dire need of adoptions, or even fosters which can save a dog’s life,” long-time shelter volunteer Christine Franke told Patch.
Normal adoption hours at the shelter are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In the meantime, the shelter needs experienced large dog handlers and its staff is happy to train interested dog lovers.
There’s also an abundance of bunnies, kittens and cats to spend time with too, Franke said. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the shelter by calling the number above or emailing [email protected].

Pups & Pour will take place on July 13, from noon to 2 p.m. at Village Vines, located at 35 John Street in Babylon.
