FAIRFAX, VA — Debris from an overturned truck on Nutley Street in Fairfax between Route 29 and the I-66 ramps closed the northbound lanes of Nutley Street and backed up traffic in the southbound lanes around 11:19 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a spokesman with the Fairfax County Police Department.

Personnel from the Fairfax County’s police and fire departments, as well as incident responders from the Virginia Department of Transportation, were overseeing the work of several large tow trucks that were working to right the overturned truck.

FCPD closed access to northbound Nutley Street at the Route 29 to Saintsbury Drive. At first, southbound traffic was being funneled to a single lane at Saintsbury Drive, but by 2 p.m. a second lane had opened.

The truck was carrying metal recyclables, which is what was dumped onto the road, according to the FCPD spokesman.
