As Brazilian defender Dante (39) looks set to join the technical staff on the Côte d’Azur at the end of this season, OGC Nice are in the market for a replacement. That replacement could take the form of Istanbul Başakşehir’s Youssouf Ndayishimiye. According to a report from Foot Mercato, the 24-year-old, who plays in either central defence or centre midfield, is set to join Nice for a fee of around €10m. The finer details of the deal have yet to be formalised.
Nice had tried to recruit him last summer, and it appears that their persistence has paid off. The Burundian international has already rejected RC Lens and looks set to join Jean-Clair Todibo in a partnership at the back for Le Gym, who sit 10th in Ligue 1 at the season’s halfway point. Arriving in January, rather than in the summer transfer window, should allow the Burundian time to acclimatise to the French top flight before Dante’s predicted retirement, ensuring continuity at the heart of Nice’s defence.
The defender had previously spent a season at Yeni Malatyaspor before a move to Europe’s most populous city. This season, he has started all 17 games for which he was available, during which time he also registered four goals. His disciplinary record, however, may concern Les Aiglons, with Ndayishimiye missing two league games this season after the accumulation of eight yellow cards.
