A brand new Match of the Year 2018 collection has been added to the WWE Network this week, featuring — as you might be able to guess from the title — some of the best bouts of the entire year so far.
One major absence from the list, which is ironic because it is arguably the actual WWE Match of the Year, is the tag team match between the Undisputed Era and Mustache Mountain from the June 21st edition of WWE NXT television.
That match earned the distinction of being the first “five star match”, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, in WWE television history. They instead opted to go with their bout at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn IV, which was an excellent bout, but not as highly rated as their earlier television performance.
The collection only extends through WWE Evolution in October, so the list is also missing a few great matches from Survivor Series and NXT Takeover: WarGames. It’s possible they could updated the collection at a later date.
