Jean-Claude Thébault has been appointed as the head of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (BEPA), the in-house think-tank of the president of the European Commission, succeeding Vítor Gaspar, who stepped down in February. Thébault has been the Commission’s deputy-secretary general since November, prior to which he was deputy head of Commission President José Manuel Barroso’s private office.
Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s new prime minister, announced the composition of his cabinet on Tuesday (4 May). János Martonyi has been appointed foreign minister, a post he held in 1998-2002. György Matolcsy, a former finance minister, will be head of the new ministry for national economic development. Tibor Navracsics, previously the leader of the caucus of Fidesz representatives in the parliament, is the minister for national administration and justice. Sándor Pintér has been appointed as minister for the interior.
Doug Baillie, president of Unilever Western Europe, has been appointed president of the European Brands Association, succeeding Gianni Ciserani of Procter & Gamble. Pierre Laubies, the president of Mars Global Petcare, has been appointed as the association’s vice-president. Both will hold office for two years.
Andreas Galanakis has been appointed director of policy at the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU. He was previously head of economic policy at Greece’s permanent representation of the EU.
