HOLDERS LIVERPOOL WILL take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16, while Manchester City are set to square off with Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s two-legged tie at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano, where Jurgen Klopp’s men lifted the trophy in June, and Anfield will be one of the highlights.
Real’s clash with reigning Premier League champions Man City is another mouthwatering tie, as Pep Guardiola’s charges aim to win the European crown for the first time.
With City sitting 14 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League, targeting the Champions League trophy is likely to be Guardiola’s main priority this season.
But they now face a daunting clash with LaLiga giants Madrid, who have won the competition in four of the past six seasons.
The fixture also allows Guardiola to renew his rivalry with Madrid having previously managed their Clasico opponents Barcelona.
Neymar’s Paris Saint-Germain, who have fallen at the last 16 stage in the last three seasons, were pitted against Borussia Dortmund while Frank Lampard’s youthful Chelsea face European masters Bayern Munich.
Last season’s beaten finalists Tottenham, now led by Jose Mourinho, must beat German side Leipzig to reach the quarter-finals and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus face France’s other representatives, Lyon.
Barcelona will play Napoli and surprise Italian qualifiers Atalanta were drawn against Valencia.
The first legs are scheduled for 18/19/25 or 26 February and the second legs are set for 10/11/17 or 18 of March.
The runners-up play the first leg at home.
The Champions League Last-16 draw:
Borussia Dortmund v Paris Saint-Germain
Real Madrid v Manchester City
