Legendary golf coach Pete Cowen has labelled Matt Wallace a “complete idiot” and called for the 29-year-old to be banned for his treatment of his caddie at the BMW International last month.

Cowen, who works with the likes of Brooks Koepka, Henrik Stenson and Gary Woodland, was speaking to The Times, where he claimed

Wallace was seen angrily remonstrating with his caddie, Dave McNeilly, on the 18th hole of the BMW International in June, and the English golfer also came under fire for a putter slam at the British Masters back in May.

Hitting back at Cowen’s claim that Wallace should be banned was the golfer’s agent, Chubby Chandler, who stated to James Corrigan of The Telegraph 

“He’s a good kid who hasn’t smashed up markers or abused officials unlike some other players and to say he should be banned is utterly ridiculous. It’s funny, I remember a young player who I was on Tour with in the 70s who was renowned for his tantrums and snapping clubs. His name was Pete Cowen.”
