Maurizio Sarri’s Blues could go top of the Premier League against Marco Silva’s Toffees with a win at Stamford Bridge ahead of the international break

With Olivier Giroud’s second-half header sending them through to the knockout stages of the Europa League , Chelsea turn their attention squarely back to the chase for the Premier League summit as they host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Maurizio Sarri’s side lie second in the table heading into the last round of fixtures before the November international break – and could go top if they down the Toffees and other results go their way.

Marco Silva’s visitors however will be determined to give the London outfit a tough time in their own back yard, as they chase a fifth league win in six games following their lacklustre start to the season.

With players from both squads also called up for international duty  – including an England recall for Everton man Michael Keane – there’s going to be no shortage of motivation ahead of the Premier League’s third hiatus in as many months.

With Europa League progression confirmed and a place in the knockout stages sealed, Chelsea turn their attention back to the Premier League – though they will have to turn in a markedly improved performance at Stamford Bridge for the visit of Everton to please Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues boss called their sluggish 1-0 win over BATE on Thursday “slow” and was less than impressed with his side, though he admitted he was happy for goalscorer Giroud.

The France international scored the only goal of the encounter , his first under Sarri since the Italian’s arrival from Napoli in the summer, ending a personal drought in front of the net.

With league leaders Manchester City set for a derby showdown against Manchester United though, Chelsea have a chance to usurp the champions and take first place heading into November’s international break.

To do so though, they first have to defeat Marco Silva’s Toffees who have hit their stride over the past few weeks, winning five of their last six league games.

The former Watford’s boss made the long-awaited move to Goodison Park in the summer and after a rocky start, appears to have the club on track.

Their fine form has seen an England recall for defender Michael Keane too, along with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, with the pair named in Gareth Southgate’s squad alongside the Blues pair of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Keane however will have to face Chelsea without his regular defensive partner Kurt Zouma; the France international, on loan from Sarri’s side in Merseyside, is unable to play against his parent club.

Yerry Mina instead looks set to be handed his full competitive debut for the club, following the Colombian’s arrival in pre-season.
