LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Broomfield (Colo.) High School’s Lindsey Malkin slugged her way to this week’s MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week honor for games played Aug. 22-28.
Malkin, a senior third baseman/catcher, launched four home runs in her first seven at bats of the season and posted an astronomical slugging percentage of 2.714. She was nearly perfect at the plate, going 6-for-7 (.857) with five extra base hits, eight RBI, five runs scored and a 3.571 OPS as Broomfield opened the season with a pair of victories. In the season opener against Poudre, Malkin was 3-for-3 at the plate with two long balls, four RBI and three runs scored. A day later, she registered three more hits, a double and two round trippers, four RBI and two runs scored in an 8-4 victory over Silver Creek.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete’s game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the fall season, with one representative chosen from the participating regions. During the spring campaign, a player from each of five separate high school regions is selected.
