Yalitza Aparicio is having an award season so groundbreaking, so powerful, and so fun to watch that I just teared up trying to summarize it in one sentence. In case you missed the Vogue Mexico cover, the W Magazine spread, or the "Jimmy Kimmel" appearance, Aparicio had just completed her teaching degree in Oaxaca, Mexico, when she was cast as the lead in Alfonso Cuarón's "Roma." She became a first-time actor and tonight, she's a first-time Oscar nominee.

Even more firsts: The nomination makes Aparicio the first-ever Indigenous Mexican in contention for Best Actress. (She's only the second Mexican actress to ever be nominated, after Salma Hayek as Frida.) As she detailed to the New York Times, she hopes her nomination helps "people to take away that anyone can do this, that anyone can actually go after their dreams, that you're not limited by your race, or your class, or your ethnicity, or your socioeconomic conditions, but that really there is room for everybody."

The cliché "Cinderella story" definitely applies, if Cinderella was a naturally gifted actress opening doors for indigenous women and killing it on red carpets up and down Hollywood and Highland.

For her first red-carpet season, Aparicio has worked with makeup artist Carissa Ferreri, who has painted such illustrious faces as Gina Rodriguez and Annette Bening. For Aparicio, they've gone with glowy skin and statement eyes. But tonight is The Night, and every single person on the Oscars red carpet will be turning things up a notch.

Soon after sending Aparicio on her merry way down the red carpet, Ferreri jumped on the phone to give us a behind-the-scenes breakdown on the potential Best Actress' beauty look.

"Tonight feels like the finale," says Ferreri. "Even two months ago, maybe not everyone knew who Yali was. Now, I feel like all eyes are on her, people know her story, people are talking about her and the movie and how important her nomination is. There are so many layers to this night that makes it feel really important and positive."

I promise this will be the last time I evoke the fairy tale narrative, but you just can't describe Aparicio's gown without a princess shoutout. It's a soft, floaty, mint green Rodarte one-shoulder dress, trimmed in sparkly silver polka dots.

"As soon as I saw the dress, I thought of spring and rebirth," says Ferreri. She chose peach, apricot, and coral shades to complement the mint green. The colors are beautifully juxtaposed, for an overall look that's soft, sweet, and extremely Ready For a First Oscar.

First, Ferreri started by prepped the skin with Arbonne RE9 Advanced Smoothing Facial Cleanser, mixed in with Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Cleansing Polish.

"I wanted to make sure her skin was so polished, just a really clean canvas," she says. She followed it up with the RE9 Advanced Regenerating Toner and RE9 Advanced Intensive Renewal Serum, then sealed it all in with her own facial roller-slash-good luck charm.

From there, Ferreri started in on the soft, ethereal eye look. “Yali didn't want a lot on her eyes, so I worked to bring some color to the lids without it feeling like too much," she says. She used a flat brush to press in peach and gold shades from Arbonne It's All In the Eyes Volume 2 directly into the center of the lids. Then she diffused and softened the shadow through the crease with Calloway (a dusty pink) and Clove (a pink clay), two shades from [Volume 1](https://www.arbonne.com/Pws/homeoffice/store/AMUS/product/NEW-Its-All-in-the-Eyes-Volume-1-Eye-Shadow-Palette-6766,13337,261.aspx}. For the cheeks, she blended blossom and apricot-colored shades, then swept whatever powder was left on the brush across the eyes to keep the look cohesive.

"For the lips, we started off timid," says Ferreri. But once Aparicio was in her dress, she added an extra layer of Arbonne Smoothed Over Lipstick in Zinnia, a gorgeous bright coral. Zinnia is the lipstick Aparicio has in her purse tonight, and we just hope it brings her good luck.

Hairstylist Matilde Campos completed the look with Yali's (I'm calling her that now) signature middle-parted hair, set long and smooth down her back. "The look I created was created just for Yalitza and for who she is," Campos said in a release. "She has natural beauty and beautiful long hair, so I didn’t want to add anything to it."

Campos used the celebrity-favorite Dyson Supersonic Professional Hair Dryer on Aparicio's damp hair, then prepped using Oribe Volumista Mist combed from the root and sprayed throughout the rest of the hair. To tame flyaways, she used a cocktail of sprays and oils including Leonor Greyl Huile Secret de Beaute, with Rusk Deepshine Oil on the ends. Finally, she finished the look using Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to give Aparicio's mane a "natural flow."

Asked for any final thoughts, Ferreri doesn't offer one last lipstick shoutout or shadow tip. "I'm just truly excited for the whole world to know Yali's story," she says. PSA: Call out sick tomorrow — you know you're staying up too late tonight anyway — and watch "Roma" on Netflix.
