MOBILE, AL — An arrest was made Saturday morning after multiple people were injured following a shooting that broke out at a high school football game at Ladd Peeples Stadium in Mobile Friday night, according to officials and news reports.
Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste told reporters Friday night that those injured were between the ages of 15-18. Battiste said one person suffered a seizure because of the shooting and a second person had a injured hand trying to get out of the way.
In a news release, police said a total of nine people were shot. No injuries are considered life-threatening.
The shooting is believed to have occurred during the end of the game between Williamson and LeFlore High Schools.
On Saturday morning, Battiste said Deangelo Parnell, 17, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Parnell, a student at LeFlore High School, faces nine counts of attempted murder, Battiste said.
“This was a cowardly act by an individual that did not know how to deal with the conflict or the disagreement he was having with somebody else other than recklessly discharging a firearm into a crowded venue,” Battiste said. “That’s unacceptable.”
The Mobile County Public School System released the following statement to Fox 10:
“It is sad that something like this happened at a high school football game, where our athletes were having a good game on the field. We do not know all of the details as this is a Mobile Police investigation, so we will have to refer all further questions to the MPD.”
