AEW has announced its return to Kentucky.
The promotion will present Collision from the Rupp Arena in Lexington on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Tickets go on-sale beginning Friday, June 30.
WWE presented SmackDown on Friday, June 16, 2023, from the same venue. Just under 10,000 tickets were distributed to the show according to WrestleTix.
Our own Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter earlier this month that WWE has put clauses in its contracts with venues preventing them from promoting or selling tickets to AEW events until after the WWE show has taken place.
Meltzer wrote:
There is an interesting note that in arenas that do rent to both AEW and WWE, WWE has put clauses in its deals that AEW can’t run a certain number of weeks before or after the WWE show, and also that AEW and the arena can’t announce the show or sell tickets until after the WWE show has taken place
AEW debuted in Kentucky on January 25, 2023, with an episode of Dynamite and Rampage. Just over 5200 tickets were distributed to the show. They returned in May for a House Rules show from the Corbin Arena in Corbin, Kentucky, which drew just under 2000.
