As noted, Rey Mysterio was announced as they pre-order bonus character for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game being released later this year.
Following the announcement, there has been speculation that Mysterio might have signed a new deal with WWE, however, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that as of today, Mysterio has yet to sign a new deal with WWE.
As we have been reporting over the past few months, a deal is expected to be reached between Mysterio and WWE, and the likely time for a Mysterio return would be possibly before or after SummerSlam.
It’s worth noting that when talents sign deals to appear in WWE video games, often times, as was the case with Bill Goldberg and Sting, the deal is made with 2K Sports, and not WWE. In the case of both Goldberg and Sting, however, the video game deals lead to eventual WWE in-ring deals.
