New Yorkers turned out in droves to protest President Donald Trump’s first post-election visit to his home city on Thursday, where he arrived later than scheduled after the U.S. House passed the reviled American Healthcare Act (AHCA), also known as Trumpcare.
Thousands of people gathered throughout Manhattan, at Trump Tower, and near the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum where the president met with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Many banged pots and pans to “drown out” Trump’s planned speech, while others hoisted signs, banners, and puppets. The protests were tracked on Twitter with the hashtag #NoTrumpNYC.

“New York hates you!” they shouted at his motorcade.
Among the protesters were members of the New York State Nurses Association, who chanted, “What do we want? Healthcare! When do we want it? Now!”
Others yelled, “Not my president!”
Trump received 36.5 percent of the vote in the November election to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s 59 percent.
“He doesn’t represent this city,” one protester, 30-year-old Steve McCasland of Queens, told AMNY. McCasland held a sign that read, “This village doesn’t want its idiot back.”
Others gathered on the West Side Highway near the floating Intrepid museum. “He’s orange, he’s gross, he lost the popular vote!” they chanted. On the water, members of Greenpeace rafted by with signs that read simply, “Resist” and “Resiste.”
