MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling coach Kris Nelson has announced Dylan Connell of Center City, Minn., and Austin May of Zimmerman, Minn., have signed national letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at MSUM starting in 2015-16.
“We are excited to have Dylan and Austin commit to our program,” Nelson said. “We look forward to having them as part of our team. Both will have the chance to contribute next season.”
Connell is a three-time state entrant from Chisago Lakes Area High School who is projected to compete at 141 pounds. He was fifth in the state at 120 pounds in Class AA last season after placing sixth as a sophomore. He enters his senior season with a 137-26 record. He was an ASICS Folkstyle Cadet All-American in 2013 and placed fourth in the JJ Classic in 2014. Connell holds the Chisago Lakes Area record for most wins in a season and most team points in a single season.
May, projected to wrestle at 184 pounds in college, is entering his senior season at Zimmerman High School. He was the Minnesota Class AA state champion at 182 pounds last season, when he finished 37-7. May was an all-state and all-conference selection in 2014 after earning all-conference honorable mention honors in 2013. He was a two-time team captain and is a five-year wrestling letterwinner. May was also a standout in football where he was an all-conference and all-section honoree.
Nelson said the Dragons plan to sign more wrestlers in the spring signing period.
