Mankato, Minn. — After an impressive showing at the National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind., last weekend, Minnesota State University’s Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) earned NSIC Wrestler of the Week accolades.
The Apple Valley, Minn., native finished the weekend with three impressive victories. His first victory was his biggest when he defeated top-ranked and defending national champion Jonatan Rivera (Notre Dame(OH)) by a 6-3 decision. He defeated Heath Lange (Indianapolis) by tech fall, 16-1 in his second match as the Mavericks went on to defeat 16th-ranked Indianapolis by a final score of 21-12. Mincey finished his day with another victory over a ranked opponent, this time 7th-ranked Chase White (Nebraska-Kearney) by a 7-3 decision.
With his three wins last weekend, Mincey now owns an unblemished 12-0 on the season. Last week, Mincey was ranked sixth in the nation heading into the National Duals.
Mincey and the rest of the Mavericks open up their 2016 home schedule where they will take on MSU Moorhead on Thursday in Taylor Center. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
