Nintendo has announced that Splatoon 2 will be getting a free trial that will also come with a 20% off discount for the game and a seven-day free-trial for Nintendo Switch Online.

The Splatoon 2 Special Demo is available for download starting today, March 18, and players can begin playing on March 19 at 7am PT/10am ET. It will run for about a week and will end on March 25 at 6:59am PT/8:59am ET.

This free trial will include 4-on-4 Turf War battles, Salmon Run, League Battle, Ranked Battle modes online with “friends and other players who own the full game,” and participants will be able to customize their weapons and apparel.

Splatoon 2’s story mode and the Octo Expansion are not included in this demo, so those who wish to try those will still have to purchase the game. To make that decision a little easier, those who wish to upgrade the demo to the full version will be able to do so at a 20% discount during the demo period. Additionally, demo progress will carry over.

As previously mentioned, players who download the demo will also receive a seven-day free trial for Nintendo Switch Online, which is required for online play, and can be used even if you have already had a previous free trial.

In our review of Splatoon 2, which has sold over 8 million copies, we said that “Splatoon 2 brings the pain(t) with a great new co-op mode and the best updates from its predecessor.”
