BABYLON, NY — The Babylon Animal Shelter is full, despite 4.1 million shelter animals getting adopted yearly and around 920,000 cats and dogs ending up euthanized.

On Saturday, the shelter is partnering with dog-friendly Village Vines to help adoptable dogs find their forever families, with a sort of speed dating event highlighted with wine and other goodies.

“Our shelter is full and we are in dire need of adoptions, or even fosters which can save a dog’s life,” long-time shelter volunteer Christine Franke told Patch.

While a slew of puppy dog eyes is sure to tug on some hearts, there will also be wine, “amazing” basket raffles and gift card giveaways, Franke added.

Recently, the shelter’s been writing love letters about its residents, including Delicious Diesel, the shelter’s “godfather Louie,” beautiful Bella and Hunky Handsome, who’s still up for grabs.

While this is the first Pups & Pour a newly opened Village Vines, being super dog-friendly was a goal for the start for Frank and Franceska Genovas. The father-daughter duo wanted to “create a space that feels like home and offers more than just wine and spirits,” Francesca told Patch in May.

“It’s all-around dog-friendly and offers treats and water for pups,” she said.

Pups & Pour will take place on July 13, from noon to 2 p.m. at Village Vines, located at 35 John Street in Babylon.
