DARIEN, CT — A new wellness center is being proposed for about a 500-square-foot space at 770 Boston Post Road, according to documents submitted to the Darien Planning & Zoning Commission.

On Tuesday, the commission briefly examined a special permit application so InspireTrainFit LLC can open its doors at the building, which also houses House of Trizia Designs, Lash Vault LLC, and a tenant in an upstairs apartment.

The meeting was held at Town Hall, and is available to watch on Darien TV79.

The commission did not take any action, and while they did have some questions about how parking would work at the site, they appeared to be amenable.

InspireTrainFit is owned by Darien resident Allison Milano, an exercise kinesiologist who already has another location in Stamford. The business opened in 2015.

The wellness center would offer sports rehabilitation, therapeutic bodywork, kinesiology, mobility training, craniosacral therapy and various holistic therapies, according to the narrative associated with the application.

Milano told the commission she’d be the only employee at the site since her work is predominantly one-on-one.

“Clients come in and I pretty much see the whole family. We only take one car an hour for the workday hours of 9 a.m. to 5-6 p.m.,” Milano said.

A specialist, such as an acupuncturist, could occasionally come in for certain programming, Milano said.

“This project aims to create a wellness center that integrates seamlessly with the existing businesses and residential tenant, providing essential wellness services to the community while maintaining adequate parking and minimizing disruption,” the project narrative states.

The business would require two parking spaces; a total of seven or eight vehicles could fit on the paved area, which is not striped, said Darien Director of Land Use Jeremy Ginsberg. There is an informal space on gravel in front of a garage down the side of the building.

Commissioner Michael Nedder said he was “on the fence” about parking.

“I think if she has designated two spaces and she only uses two spaces, I’m kind of OK with it,” Nedder said.

According to the project narrative, in case of overflow, there is available two-hour street parking in front of a neighboring property.

Commissioners said they could see about getting the paved parking area striped.

The commission is expected to vote on special permit approval by the end of the month.
