CONCORD, NH — Thousands of people are without power in New Hampshire on Wednesday after a storm with a mix of snow, rain, and high winds caused utility problems around the state.

As of 9:30 a.m., about 6,500 customers are without power.

Eversource reported around 4,800, including about 1,500 customers in both Manchester and Pittsburg.

The state’s largest utility company also reported outages of between 100 and 350 in several North Country communities. Smaller outages were reported in Loudon, Nashua, North Hampton, and Rye.

The New Hampshire Electric Co-Op reported more than 1,700 customers without power, all in the North Country or Upper Valley of the state.

Unitil reported about 100 customers on the Seacoast without power around 9 a.m., but they have since been restored.

Liberty Utilities reported no outages.

Unitil said, despite the high winds overnight, only about 125 customers were without power around 6 a.m.

Crews will be standing by, if needed, throughout the day, Unitil External Affairs Director Alec O’Meara said.

“Elevated wind gusts can make extending bucket arms unsafe, and there may be flooding risks in some areas as snow continues to melt,” he said. “Crews will be restoring power where possible, but we are expecting difficult working conditions this morning as this high-intensity storm finishes passing through the area.”

Warm temperatures on Wednesday melted much of the overnight snow. The temps will be in the high 40s all day. Wind gusts are still expected throughout the day.

A flood watch and warning are in effect for the entire state.

Hampton police are also reporting Ocean Boulevard was temporarily closed down due to “extremely high seas and flooding.”

On X-Twitter, the department said, “Please avoid the area” and “if you live in the area, we recommend you temporarily leave the area for higher ground.” A shelter has been set up at the gym at Hampton Academy.

“Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with snow and other debris,” a NWS alert stated. “Rapid rises along small streams will also be possible.”

The NWS reported Wednesday that officials are watching the Suncook River in North Chichester, which is at 9 feet and may flood multiple campgrounds in the region.

Thursday and Friday will be sunny, but snow is expected on Friday night.

The NWS said Wednesday morning the Friday storm would exhibit “very similar characteristics” as the Tuesday-Wednesday storm: “Rain, snow, and wind impacts possible but perhaps slightly lower in magnitude.”

The snow will turn to rain on Saturday and then showers will continue with temps in the 50s.

The sun returns on Sunday.
