OCEANSIDE, CA — A northern San Diego County teacher won a prize on “Let’s Make a Deal.”
Julie Anne Montoya, 57, of Oceanside competed on Thursday’s episode of the television game show, which is known for its audience members who dress up in costumes to get host Wayne Brady’s attention, in hopes of getting a chance to compete.
Montoya, who dressed up as a safari guide with a stuffed snake around her neck, was one of the contestants chosen to play the game. She was given the choice of $750 or whatever was hidden behind a curtain. She took a chance on the curtain and won a pair of scooters valued at $5,198.

“The experience was amazing,” Montoya told Patch.
Montoya, who works as a high school special education teacher, has been a fan of the show for years.

“I have watched ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ since I was young and always dreamed that one day I would be able to get on the show,” she said. “This last summer, I saw an advertisement for contestants and jumped at the chance to dress up for an interview for a spot. My sister, JoAnne, loves the show as much as I do, and dressed up and went along with me.”
Montoya said her favorite part of the show was being on stage and cheering for the other contestants, who bonded and became new friends.

“The first few hours we spent time as a whole group doing ‘get to know each other’ activities,” said Montoya, who has lived in Oceanside for 14 years. “It was hilarious! By the time we got to the actual taping of the show, we had bonded with the rest of the group and truly wanted our new friends to be chosen and win.”
