NARBERTH, PA — Kismet Bagels, one of Philadelphia newest and most popular bagel businesses, is planning a Main Line expansion.
The popular bagel purveyors — who have locations in Fishtown, Rittenhouse, and the Reading Terminal Market in Philly — are eyeing a fall 2023 opening at 801 Montgomery Ave. in Narberth, the former Ginza Japanese restaurant location.
Jacob and Alex Cohen, the married couple behind Kismet, said the expansion is a bit of a homecoming for them.

The Cohens grew up right near their new shop’s location.
“I grew up in Bala Cynwyd and Alex grew up in Bryn Mawr,” Jacob Cohen told Patch.

He said Alex Cohen even used to go to Ginza with family members back in the day.
“I hate to sound like a broken record, but it’s kismet,” he said.
This new spot is 1,600 square feet, which is significantly larger than their Fishtown and Rittenhouse locations.
Once open, it will mark the first Kismet spot to feature seating, both indoor and outdoor, the Cohens said.
Guests will be able to order at the counter and get their orders to go or dine in.
This spot will be “definitely different,” they said.
With such a large office contingency on the Main Line, the new location aims to offer more than just breakfast fare, and plan to do catering.
The Cohens are working to develop a menu that includes lunch items, such as non-bagel sandwiches and salads.
Additionally, this new location will have a full coffee program, unlike the existing locations which only serve hot, drip coffee.
Another new aspect for the budding location are sweets.
The Cohens plan to make a variety of sweet items in house to help satisfy hungry Main Liners’ sweet teeth.
The bevvy of offices in and around Narberth will help the Cohens bolster their catering options, too.

But fear not, Kismet fans: the new location will feature their classic offerings.
Expect to see their signature bagels and schmears that can be found at the three other locations.
And as with their current locations, the Narberth spot will play host to pop-ups, collaborations, and other “extracurricular offerings,” Alex Cohen said.
Kismet’s first location in Fishtown opened in just April 2022 after the Cohens stated making and selling their bagels via pop-ups in May 2020 during the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s been a wild three-year journey,” Jacob Cohen said.
More details, such as hours, menus, and more will be released closer to the new store’s opening.
