ENFIELD, CT — A public hearing concerning the potential disposition of the former Nathan Hale School on Taylor Road has been scheduled for April 17.

The hearing is slated for 6:55 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Enfield Town Hall. Enfield residents are welcome to offer their comments.

Last month, upon referral from the council, the Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously approved a plan for conveyance of the property, which ceased being a school upon the closure of Hale at the end of the 2016-17 academic year.

Director of Planning Laurie Whitten told the commission a prospective buyer is interested in creating indoor and outdoor basketball courts and a residential component in future phases. She said the town currently owes about $102,000 on the property, and Town Manager Ellen Zoppo-Sassu and Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek are applying for loan forgiveness through the school construction office.

Whitten also said an EPA Brownfield assessment is being done on the property, at no cost to the town.
