Ping pong players rejoice.

PingPod, a new-age table tennis company that uses automated facilities, recently had its storefront go up on the Upper West Side.

“We aim to make Table Tennis accessible to everyone. Starting in NYC, we offer communities safe spaces to play that urban centers desperately lack,” reads an About section on PingPod’s website. “PingPod’s mission is to activate neighborhoods by using technology and an easy, seamless and affordable customer experience.”

PingPod locations, which first opened in 2020, are always open and don’t use employees within the outposts, as players instead use an app to open the door.

You can book sessions 24-hours a day ranging from 30 minutes to one hour to an hour and a half.

While there aren’t many places to play ping pong on the Upper West Side, local players might note the proximity of the incoming PingPod location to the beloved neighborhood spot the Wang Chen Table Tennis Club.

The longtime table tennis club is located at 250 W. 100th St., less than a two-minute walk from the soon to open PingPod outpost.

The club is run by Wang Chen, who participated in the 2008 Olympics and still holds the best ever finish by an American player in an individual Olympic ping pong competition.

“In response to the overwhelming demand from the PingPod community, we are thrilled to be opening a Pod on the Upper West Side, and alongside Wang Chen’s,” Max Kogler, one of the founders and CEO on PingPod told Patch, when asked about the opening and its proximity to the Wang Chen Table Tennis Club. “With differing hours and offerings, we are excited to make the UWS a hub for table tennis enthusiasts serving a densely populated neighborhood together!”

Wang Chen Table Tennis Club did not immediately answer Patch’s request for comment.

Nuts Factory: 284 Columbus Avenue (near corner of 74th Street)

The Upper West Side must be nuts for nuts, as the neighborhood’s second Nuts Factory location will open soon near 74th Street and Columbus Avenue.

Signage recently went up for the store at 284 Columbus Ave., which sells nuts along with chocolates, coffee, dried fruits, granola, hard candies, gummies, tea, and more.

“With this variety of products, dad came up with the idea of bringing back the culinary experience of old markets: the colors, the smells and of course the flavors, so he set to design a new concept and we began to open old fashion market-style stores,” reads an About section on Nuts Factory’s website.

The new location is expected to open in two weeks, according to ILoveTheUpperWestSide, which was the first publication to report on the Nuts Factory opening.

Intimissimi: 241 Columbus Ave. (corner of 71st Street)

Intimissimi, a popular Italian lingerie brand, opened earlier this month at 241 Columbus Ave. — on the corner of 71st Street.

The brand already had eight locations across the city, before opening on the Upper West Side.

The new outpost will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
