The Arsenal captain could be out for the rest of the season after picking up the injury against Everton
England star Jordan Nobbs could be a doubt for next summer’s World Cup after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament at the weekend.
The midfielder suffered the injury during Arsenal’s 4-0 Women’s Super League win over Everton on Sunday and is likely to miss the rest of the domestic season.
The Women’s World Cup will begin in France on June 7th next year, and a fully fit Nobbs would be expected to start for Phil Neville’s side.
In a statement made on Monday, Arsenal said: “Following scans this morning, we can confirm that Jordan has suffered an ACL rupture in her left knee and she is now receiving specialist care.
“Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and will give their full support in her journey back to full fitness.”
The 25-year-old already has 56 England caps to her name, and was awarded Player of the Year for the Lionesses in 2016.
So far this season she has been an instrumental part of Arsenal’s 100% start to the WSL campaign, scoring eight goals in eight league appearances, including a goal and assist in Sunday’s victory over a resolute Everton side.
The Gunners’ win saw them move six points clear of second-placed Manchester City, but will go into the rest of the season without their captain and talisman, starting next weekend with the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion.
Nobbs has been equally important at international level and has become a mainstay of a Lionesses side that finished top of their World Cup qualifying group after rounding off an unbeaten campaign with a resounding 6-0 victory over Kazakhstan in September.
Since then Neville’s side have recorded a respectable draw with Australia and a famous win over Brazil, but were sunk 2-0 in their most recent outing against Sweden.
