The utility companies reported that most service would be restored Thursday.
Meanwhile, the numbers are going to fluctuate as problems are found.
In Somers, officials resorted to Facebook Thursday to warn folks that the phones were down at the Highway Department and recommend calling 914-602-9474 to report road problems.
“Additional damage is being reported in the daylight hours,” Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann told Patch. “Compromised power lines fell this morning in two places. Along with Orange & Rockland Utilities, the fire departments responded to deal with the sparking wires.”
One of the storm’s wildest incidents started with a Clarkstown Police officer sitting in his car writing up a report on a hit-and-run. A tree fell on the trunk.
“Later on, as the highway department was there cutting up the tree so the police car could be towed, a motorcyclist wiped out and was seriously hurt,” Hoehmann said. “It was a crazy situation last night. We had a lot going on.”
