WEST ISLIP, NY — Suffolk County Police Arson Squad is investigating a residential fire that killed two dogs Friday afternoon in a West Islip house fire, Suffolk police said.
The West Islip Fire Department was activated for a residential fire “in the area of Boulevard Avenue and Kline Street” around 2:30 p.m., according to officials.
Upon arrival, second Assistant Chief Michael Delgado found a working fire and was made aware that animals may be inside the house, officials said.

According to the fire department, Mohawk Engine Company 3-17-5 was on the scene “within minutes and began stretching hose lines.” Shortly after, other crews arrived and began primary searches of the residents.
Firefighters found a fire in the basement and it took crews around an hour to bring the fire under control, the fire department said.

Two dogs were killed in the blaze, while no people were injured, the fire department said.
Mutual aid was provided by the West Islip, Babylon and Bay Shore fire departments, Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, Suffolk County Police Department and Islip Town Fire Marshall Office.
