—— WWE NEWS ——

As we inch closer to WrestleMania and the start of another “year” for the world’s biggest sports entertainment promotion, WWE has officially announced that the brand-exclusive PPV concept is dead. Starting with WWE Backlash on May 6th all monthly PPVs will feature both RAW and Smackdown Live superstars, while the weekly television shows will maintain their exclusivity for now. (DETAILS) That being said, they’ve had to drop several big events from the calendar in response to this decision, likely showing that this was not a part of their long-term plan (DETAILS).

Following his surprise return at the Royal Rumble, WWE has continued to spam Rey Mysterio all over their social media accounts. He’s been featured in a crazy amount of YouTube videos, Twitter posts and even got a featured spot on the front of WWE.com over the weekend. It’s expected that he’ll return to the company at some point in 2018, and will not be returning to Lucha Underground, but it’s still very odd that WWE is pushing him so hard when he’s not under contract, and is in fact working a major bout for New Japan next month. —— WRESTLING NEWS ——

New Japan’s most popular star Tetsuya Naito made an extremely rare excursion to the United States to work three independent shows in the midwest this last weekend. He wrestled Michael Elgin on 2/16 for Pro Wrestling Revolver in Dayton, OH, Sami Callihan on 2/17 for AAW in Chicago, and AR Fox on 2/18 for Glory Pro in St. Louis. ProWrestling.com made the trip for the first two shows, and you can check out our content below.

It was the second show in Chicago that caused some controversy, both online and locally in the midwest. Without advertising him for their mystery card on Saturday, AAW booked Michael Elgin in a five minute match after claiming back in December that he was pulled from upcoming shows, in light of current scandals. Here’s the complete rundown on the entire Elgin situation and an apology from AAW co-owner Danny Daniels.
